Florian Schmidt-Gabain is a lawyer by passion. He has more than ten years of professional experience and has been teaching at the Universities of Basel and Zurich for just as long. He develops tailor-made solutions for his clients and likes to think out of the box – and back into the box if the outside of it proved to be not useful. One main focus of Florian Schmidt-Gabain’s work is art and entertainment law (see his other fields of expertise). Since 2020, he has been an arbitrator at the Court of Arbitration for Art (CAfA) in The Hague.

Another focus of Florian Schmidt-Gabain’s work is strategic estate planning, particularly in the area of artistic estates (visual arts, music, literature, film, architecture & design). Taking a holistic approach, Florian Schmidt-Gabain supports testators and heirs in the development and implementation of visions for their estates; always with the aim of ensuring that an estate remains relevant and prosperous. In 2019, he co-founded the Centre for Artistic Estates (ZKN). He serves as its president.

Florian Schmidt-Gabain regularly publishes in academic journals, writes specialist articles for newspapers, and gives lectures on topics in his specialist fields.
